Nursery
Our Nursery at Chandlings Prep is a very special place where the children's happiness and development are at the heart of everything we do.
Our Nursery has three rooms all in the Lavender Courtyard:
- Lavender Room for 2 years
- Garden Room for 2 - 3 years
- Acorn Room, Pre-School for 3 - 4 years
Each of these rooms has dedicated and experienced staff, offering a warm, caring and stimulating environment. Our children learn through active play. We encourage them to be self-confident and independent. Before outdoor play they learn to put on their wellies, waterproofs and coats by themselves (with a little assistance!) Healthy meals, snacks and milk are provided every day.
The Lavender Courtyard with our very own Lavender Cottage gives access to outdoor learning, including sand and water play. The children also regularly go out on supervised nature walks in our extensive grounds. Life-cycles and seasonal changes are observed first hand, as well as the children, getting opportunities to climb, run and enjoy wide open spaces. Meanwhile, our woodland area is fenced and provides opportunities for the children to explore nature, play in the ‘mud kitchen’, and develop confidence in a secure environment.
Of course, the wellbeing of each and every child is at the heart of everything we do.
Our thorough, broad curriculum, covers the three Prime and seven Specific areas of the Early Years curriculum which is all taught through active play. Each week, we offer swimming(Acorn Room), PE and Spanish lessons taught by our specialist teachers. In addition the children are offered a variety of extra-curricular activities such as yoga, tennis, ballet and football. All children in the Early Years Foundation Stage visit the library once a week where they can listen to stories and choose a book to share at home.
As a fully integrated part of Chandlings Prep School, children benefit from a seamless transition from Nursery to Reception and beyond. We have a joined-up curriculum spanning ages 3 to 11 years and access to excellent facilities and specialist teaching. Each child smoothly progresses to the next stage of their education, familiar with buildings, staff and routines and already feeling that they belong to the whole school community.
The latest ISI inspection awarded Chandlings' Early Years Foundation Stage “outstanding” in every category.
"The caring nurturing environment promotes their self-esteem and feelings of security and leads to their excellent personal, social and emotional development."
