Science and Engineering
Our aim is to develop children’s natural curiosity. Science is very practical in Years 1 and 2 and involves lots of investigations and discussions. The children begin to learn how to make predictions and record their results.
We are very lucky here at Chandlings to have extensive grounds with a variety of habitats to study. We also have a safe pond dipping pontoon on the lake. We have two specially equipped Science labs for practical work when the children move up to the Prep department.
All Pre-Prep children are taught Science and Engineering in their classrooms and we cover topics such as animals, light and dark, and plants.
Each year group ’adopt a tree’ in the School grounds which the children visit throughout the year. The aim of this initiative is for the children to become more familiar with their local environment and the many varieties of trees within our beautiful grounds. It will also provide them with more outdoor learning opportunities where they can learn about the flora and fauna found at Chandlings.
